In responding to the challenge, I downloaded the zips provided by remix the species and found myself drawn to the footage of the beauty queens. It led me to think about the metaphorical fences they drew around each other, representing a state or country with defined borders and latent rivalries. Brought together in a competitive environment, who knows what bubbles beneath the sugared surface?

What do I want to say about fences?
We have decided to include a visual piece in the film which is a dedication to what we think about fences or what we have learnt about fences. I want to make sure that what I say contributes to the meaning of the film and doesn’t distract the audience from the ideas that we have already been focusing on. So far we have been focusing on these ideas…. -The affects of putting up fences in...

Interviews: -We have completed the interview with the artists. It was a great experience but now we are really stepping back and reviewing the footage to see if it is relevant. We are thinking that we will only use a small amount of the interview footage. However the artist’s performance work provided us with some great visuals and inspired some ideas for visuals. -We are completing an...

Do we judge a house much like we judge a book,...
Sitting on my neighbours fence which is a large classical looking fence I began to discover a number of characteristics within my neighbourhood. The fence I lent on, rather than sat, is high with a smooth cream exterior. It is detailed with dark features such as bars, spikes and lights, propped at the crown of the fence. Unlike my fence at home, this fence felt majestic and had a sense of elegance...

challenge #2 (raph)
sitting on my neighbour’s fence was a strange, awkward sort of experience. i was very aware that i had crossed a boundary into a space that wasn’t my own. i slid on right at the very end, my shoulder grazing my own fence, as if the closeness was some sort of safety net. i live on a main road, where cars rush by at 70km/hr. it’s 3:30pm and schoolkids from the high school...

the girl next door
“the girl next door” is a quintessential romantic imagining for the ordinary boy. but where does it derive from? sure, from literature, from American culture and then forwards into pop culture over the decades. time has warped it, giving it a more sexualised role these days. it’s embedded into our culture now, but how did it start? the answer: fences. or lack thereof. in my written piece ...

We could create interesting visuals by using spit screen. Of course you would line it up a bit better than this example but it could be something fun to play around with. Maybe someone feels split between two communities that can be represented by two very different fences and yet moves within both worlds?

People to interview
I contacted the Sharehood website and a guy named Michael who is a volunteer for the program said he would be interested in having a chat to us. I think I will give him a call and organise a little interview.. what do you think?
I also contacted Alison Turner who has written the Fence blog and she said we could post her blog about Fences on our page.. like a guest blogger.
Has anyone found anyone else to interview?
